As part of the “Books on Historical and Cultural Heritage” collection, pays tribute to one of the most prominent figures in the study and dissemination of Menorca’s cultural heritage
The Consell Insular de Menorca presented on Thursday, 13 November, the book
“Josep Mascaró Pasarius, l'investigador polifacètic”, a collective work that brings together the various contributions prepared to commemorate the centenary of the birth of Josep Mascaró Pasarius.
The volume, published by the Consell Insular de Menorca as part of the “Books on Historical and Cultural Heritage” collection, compiles studies and articles by different authors who wished to pay tribute to one of the island’s most significant figures in research and cultural dissemination. The publication highlights the multifaceted nature of Mascaró Pasarius, who excelled in fields as diverse as history, cartography, archaeology, toponymy and journalism, always driven by a strong desire to share knowledge and to advance the understanding of Menorca’s cultural heritage.
The order of the articles follows two criteria: first, moving from more general aspects to more specific and detailed subjects; and second, grouping the different contributions thematically. Thus, the book opens with a biographical profile. It then addresses his contributions to history, cartography, archaeology and toponymy, as well as his extensive editorial work. The volume also explores his journalistic facet and his personal ties with Alaior. Finally, it includes an overview of the activities organised to mark the centenary of his birth.
“With this book, the Consell Insular aims to pay tribute to a key figure for understanding research and cultural dissemination in Menorca. Josep Mascaró Pasarius was a passionate researcher, capable of approaching very diverse disciplines with a consistently rigorous perspective and a strong commitment to the island. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to Pasarius’s daughters and family for generously providing most of the photographs featured in the volume, as well as to all the authors who collaborated selflessly, contributing their time, knowledge and dedication,” explained Joan Pons Torres, councillor for Culture, Education, Youth and Sports of the Consell Insular de Menorca.
With “L'investigador polifacètic”, the Consell Insular de Menorca resumes the collection that had been on pause for some time, with the intention of continuing it and renewing its design and format. This fifth title in the series aims both to promote the life and work of Josep Mascaró Pasarius and to encourage new avenues of research into his legacy and into the human and cultural dimensions of the Menorcan territory.
