The first edition of the Menorcan Book Fair is an initiative promoted by the Department of Culture, Education, Youth and Sports, with the aim of promoting, preserving, and showcasing the language and culture of Menorca through literary production.
The fair will feature around twenty Menorcan authors, local bookshops, and various organisations, including the Menorca Talayotic Agency, which will be present with its own publications. Among them will be the
Sitjot Collection, designed to introduce the prehistory of Menorca to non-specialist readers. There will also be
children’s books set in prehistoric Menorca, aimed at younger audiences.
The fair will be held on 4 and 5 July in Ciutadella’s Plaza de la Catedral and will include 10 events that highlight and celebrate Menorcan culture. “This fair, an initiative of the Consell Insular, seeks to promote Menorcan authors and books about Menorca, while also supporting and giving visibility to the important work carried out by bookshops, publishers, cultural organisations and institutions. We encourage all Menorcans to visit the fair and continue supporting our local authors,” stated Joan Pons Torres, the councillor for the department.
The official opening of the fair will take place on Friday, 4 July at 7:00 p.m., led by Joan Pons Torres, Councillor for Culture, Education, Youth and Sports of the Consell Insular de Menorca and also President of the Talayotic Menorca Agency.
