Talayotic Menorca Agency's director participated in a high-level forum focused on the Ribeira Sacra’s bid for UNESCO World Heritage status, offering insights from Menorca’s own successful nomination process
The historic setting of the Parador of Monforte de Lemos (Lugo) recently hosted the La Región Forum: “A paisaxe cultural da auga da Ribeira Sacra”, a gathering of institutional representatives, cultural authorities, and heritage experts convened to explore and support the Ribeira Sacra’s candidacy for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
One of the key contributions came from Antoni Ferrer, director of the Talayotic Menorca Agency, who presented the Menorcan experience as an internationally recognised case study. In his address, Ferrer outlined the core strengths of the Talayotic Menorca nomination, highlighting the participatory governance model, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the long-term management strategy developed to ensure the preservation and visibility of the site.
His presentation provided a practical reference point for the Ribeira Sacra initiative, underscoring how a cultural landscape can serve as a driver of territorial cohesion and international cultural projection. The event was held in collaboration with the regional newspaper El Progreso and forms part of a broader series of forums designed to enrich Galicia’s nomination process through the exchange of experiences and best practices with other recognised heritage sites.
