The Department of Culture of the Consell Insular de Menorca and the Talayotic Menorca Agency are launching the third edition of the “Viu Menorca Talaiòtica” excursion programme. The initiative aims to raise awareness of Menorca’s Talayotic heritage, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2023.
The programme features a series of guided outings and activities designed to offer a closer understanding of the social, cultural and environmental values associated with the island’s Talayotic sites and landscape. Open to all ages and interests, the excursions will be held one weekend per month from March to December 2026, with a break in July and August.
The opening activity on 8 March at Talatí de Dalt will focus on the role of women in Menorcan archaeology. Participants will explore the settlement while learning about the most recent discoveries from the latest archaeological campaign, as well as the contributions made by the women archaeologists who have played a key role in advancing knowledge of Talayotic culture.
Across the eleven activities scheduled for 2026, participants will be invited to discover the island’s heritage from multiple perspectives. Each excursion will be led by an archaeologist, joined by other specialists — including conservators, anthropologists and cultural heritage managers — to provide a broader and more nuanced understanding of Menorca’s archaeological legacy. As recognised in the World Heritage inscription, the significance of this heritage lies not only in the archaeological sites themselves, but also in their surrounding landscape, their setting and the ongoing management practices that safeguard both heritage and the predominantly agricultural environment.
Participation in the activity is free of charge, with costs covered by the Talayotic Menorca Agency of the Consell Insular de Menorca. Places are limited and advance registration — approximately two weeks prior to each excursion — is required via
www.menorcatalayotica.info. Each person may book up to two adult places and three for children. Registered participants will receive an email with details of the meeting point and starting time. For further information, enquiries can be made by phone or WhatsApp on +34 689 33 28 88.
